ABOUT

THE COTTAGE

LOCAL AREA

In the heart of Cairngorm National Park, the Aviemore area is famous for outstanding natural beauty.  Over the years the area has featured in TV shows like the Adventure show, Springwatch and Winterwatch.   The spectacular Highland scenery is dotted with wildlife and secluded lochs, crisscrossed by many mountain trails and fish-filled streams, and home to both skiing and climbing venues.  The area isn’t just pretty to look at - it is a remarkable year-round playground for any lover of the outdoors.

Just yards from our cottage’s door is National Cycling Route 7, a 601 mile collection of paths and quiet roads.  Nearby Loch Morlich (a must visit) has an outdoor discovery centre with plenty of facilities for walking, water sports and mountain biking. The Cairngorm Mountain Conservation/Ski area is also close by, perfect for climbers, hikers and skiers and is known for it's stunning view of the valley and the Northern Corries.

For those who love wildlife, there is an abundance.   If your lucky, you can spot deer, pheasant and red squirrel wandering past the cottage.  Harder to spot are the pine marten and wild cat.  Wake with birdsong and spot our local wood pigeon, doves, woodpeckers, siskins, wren, long-tailed tits, crossbills, and hen harriers.  On the hills you can spot ptarmigan, grouse, eagles, peregrine falcon and capercaillie.  Visit Scotland’s only Reindeer herd at the base of Cairngorm mountain.

The whole area is very well developed for visitors no matter how active you are.  Venture out on pony treks, wildlife safaris or on a quad bike.  Visit the Highland Folk Museum, Landmark centre, the Highland Wildlife Park, or Treezone for a fun family day out.  If the more energetic pursuits aren’t calling you, simply sit back and relax on the Strathspey Railway’s steam train, or hit the shops and cafes in Aviemore and surrounding villages.

You will really appreciate this cottage’s proximity to the wild riches of Cairngorms National Park and the many amenities of Aviemore. Inverness is also just a 30-minute drive away.  Aviemore is just off the A9 making it easy to access from the south.
